2018-09-11 PAC Communications Team Meeting

Table to next call

4Old Tasks review

5Current Activity
  1. Updated PICS Implementation Guide (not yet ready for group review - location will be https://aggateway.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SG/pages/258670684/AgGateway+Post-Image+Collection+Specification+PICS)
  2. ContextItem system flyer
  3. PAIL flyer (based on last year's posters with new images Susan Ruland (Unlicensed) will purchase)
  4. PAIL - ISO
  5. PAIL data elements in ADAPT - press release?
  6. Annual meeting traceability sessions:
    1. Help with topic descriptions and titles
    2. Email announcement for Monday morning session
    3. Printed 'ad' about the two Wednesday sessions
  7. ADAPT flyer update - add new statement about where to find the latest list of participating companies and available plugins

From 8/28/18 discussion - ContextItem System flyer:

  • Will discuss ContextItem 'in a nutshell' and the ContextItem API
  • Provide examples
  • Explain why it's important in the context of everything else we're doing
  • New QR code
  • graphics - use AWS licensed material
  • chart of pain points
  • Using ContextItems in ISO files
  • How to request a new ContextItem
  • no "members" on this flyer
  • Need a call to action / what we want from them
  • Audience: technical staff and their leadership, so a mix of 'story' for business and detail/techie for the folks who do the work

Discussion

  1. PICS Implementation Guide not yet ready for PAC CWG review
    1. R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed) has a section to complete on payload; once that section is complete, it should be ready for discussion at annual.
  2. ContextItem System flyer
    1. Discussed R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed) current draft. He will discuss with Stuart Rhea (Unlicensed) and send the draft to Jessica Trites Rolle. She will fill in the placeholders using content available via the QR codes (Jess will pull info with an 'outsider' this-is-of-interest view) and send draft back to Andres for review before discussing with Susan Ruland (Unlicensed) for publication.
    2. Want complete before annual meeting. Post to website and print copies.
  3. PAIL flyer
    1. Need further discussion to determine if need an entirely new flyer using the 2017 posters (linked above in old tasks) or if want a simple update to the existing PAIL flyer to indicate that PAIL is now a national standard. Jessica Trites Rolle likes the idea of an update IF we need something for annual meeting. Otherwise, we can wait until more is worked out with ISO and do a more significant revision or addition. R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed) noted that since two of three pieces are through the ANSI pipeline, may want to wait until third part is through and update then.
    2. Tie this into the Irrigation Association Irrigation Show December 3-7 in CA. PAIL participants have a speaking slot and a strong relationship with this organization, and having new press and promo materials will be helpful at that conference.
  4. PAIL - ISO
    1. R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed) and Stuart Rhea (Unlicensed) - hold until Irrigation Show (see 3.b. above)
    2. Emailed update from R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed): As a quick update on our PAIL / ISO progress, we:
      1. Submitted ISO New Work Item Proposals for PAIL Parts 1,2, and 3. ASABE is running through the pipeline so we can present them at the plenary.
      2. Submitted an informal draft of Part 2 so ASABE can copyright it together with the published Part 1 and Part 3, to secure the future right to not have to pay for use of those standards.
      3. Are working on some final edits of Parts 1 and 3 for ASABE / ANSI publication.
      4. Are working to finish Part 2 so we can submit to S&G.
      5. Are also gearing up for a call with TC23/SC18/WG8 i.e., the Spaniards and the rest of the Remote Monitoring and Control Working Group. ThisAl call will happen the morning of October 9, and seeks to address our scope concerns.
  5. Pail data elements in ADAPT - Press Release?
    1. Announce that there will be a new plugin for PAIL - discuss with Stuart - hold on any materials until annual meeting, then complete pieces for use in early December.
    2. ADM plugin should make exchange of observations and measurements possible
    3. R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed) and Stuart Rhea (Unlicensed) - hold until Irrigation Show (see 3.b. above)
  6. Annual meeting traceability session assistance
    1. Jessica Trites Rolle noted work needed to promote the Monday morning traceability session at annual meeting as well as the two Wednesday morning sessions (those need a flyer or other promo piece).
  7. ADAPT flyer updates
    1. Current flyer location: https://s3.amazonaws.com/aggateway_public/AgGatewayWeb/News/CommunicationsKit/AgGateway_ADAPT_Toolkit_103117.pdf  From ADAPT Business Team 10/2 call: "to find more information on what plugins are available and what companies are supporting ADAPT please go to https://adaptframework.org/companies-supporting-adapt/"
    2. R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed) sending Jessica Trites Rolle the most recent Word version of the ADAPT flyer for updating. Asked to receive a copy back when updates are complete.
  8. Other items
    1. None discussed.
6Onboarding / Member Engagement / PAC Goal Work
  • Communications WG activity for /wiki/spaces/PAC/pages/340459521
  • SPADE wrap-up
    • There are SPADE2 and SPADE3 summary wiki pages. There's also a SPADE life cycle Jim Wilson and Jeremy started some time ago, working to tie all SPADE and related output (user stories, use cases, BPMN diagrams, etc.) into one large flow (doc might be 'global narrative'). The SPADE2 summary chart is most complete - good baseline.

R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed) indicated he will soon be speaking to the manager who provided technical writing resources to AgGateway for PICS, and he will ask whether resources could be available for SPADE wrap-up. Jessica Trites Rolle will mention this to Ben Craker (Unlicensed) in a planning call later this week.

7Event Calendar and Speaking Engagements

Review and update the PAC Communications Calendar 2018.

Review upcoming speaking engagements and what communications items - flyers, etc. - are needed.

If new flyers, business cards, QR-code cards, etc., are needed, allow time to create/proof/print/deliver.

Added ISO TC23/SC18 (Technical Committee 23 / Sub-Committee 18) Plenary, October 21-25 in Tel Aviv, Israel

8Holding Tank (activities to consider and complete as needed)

New flyers

  • CART 2.0 PoC
  • Traceability Initiative (streamline processes in farmer businesses)
  • Precision Ag Council general

Focus on outcomes in flyers (new, updated) and ensure a flyer or promo piece addresses why it’s OK to collaborate with competitors at AgGateway and what makes that acceptable (antitrust, etc.)

For flyers: Use diagrams and pics, not words (words mean something different to different people) – borrow from presentations (ADAPT, CART, traceability, etc.) and make into a professional graphic

Other actions

  • ADAPT materials: make sure they show how ADAPT works between ISO and other standards, that it’s a tool to translate and share and standardize, not a new separate standard.
  • Business card-sized promo piece: ask a pain-point question on front, information and QR code on back
  • Identify audience: target flyers, messages to different groups; also have an overview all-audience flyer
  • Remove SPADE flyer from public website and rewrite as the project is closed out and published
  • Add a link to the AgGlossary on the AgGateway landing page (‘quick links’)
  • Case study: PICS study for Sensefly; ADAPT; PAIL; potential to do a pseudo-case-study on CART PoC?
  • Talk to new members: what pain points were they trying to solve that got them to join, and what collateral could we create to help others?

ASABE 2017: Sustainability, Provenance and ADAPT, Compound Identifiers. ASABE 2018: "Fit" paper (where does AgGateway "fit" into the standards space). Were not completed for conference papers, but could consider these journals for publication:

  • Computers & Electronics in Agriculture (ASABE journal) (no fee)
  • Applied Engineering in Agriculture (Elsevier journal) (fee)
  • There's also a Precision Ag journal, but the time frame from submission to publication is too long.

No discussion during this call.

As update/create flyers or other materials, consider (from 8/28/18 meeting discussion):

Flyer format: need to ensure we use A4 format for our flyers, include country codes flyer and card phone numbers and country on addresses, and make sure we're being international in all our press. Also be careful about colloquialisms.

9New Business

Discuss items not covered above.
