M/S/P

Old Tasks review

Current Activity

Application Notes / Implementation Notes check-in:

  • items for the team to review?
  • How ADAPT(not a standard) works with/between ISO 11783 XML and other standards (complementary, not either/or)
  • PAIL

MYM PAC Communications session 6/11, 8 a.m.

  • Current 'placeholder' description in agenda: "How we are communicating out to the industry on AgGateway initiatives in interoperability in farm operations, new irrigation standards, imaging, and more."
  • New description for agenda (draft): "During this working session, we'll create a draft infographic to explain what AgGateway does, is, and its relationship to standards and other organizations. This will complement the new 'what AgGateway has accomplished and connected' infographic. We'll also review PAC communications work to complete for transitioning to AgGateway 2020."

Soil Testing Standardization working group

  • Flyer for 'what the group is working on'

Future ADAPT items

  • "How ADAPT Versioning Works" - explain ADAPT versioning, breaking changes, and release timing so companies have a clear timeline so they know good times to implement (e.g., don't wait b/c think it will change 'soon')
  • FAQs on when to implement
  • Guide to business and developer information/tools (e.g., where to find, what is available, where to check for more info) - companies need to understand the package of materials and tools available and how to use in one guide document/page

Future other items

  • PAIL and PICS case studies
  • PICS implementation guide
  • SPADE 1 - 3 wrap-up

ADAPT application note - Additional updates to complete during MYM to finalize the ADAPT and ISO 11783 XML relationship note. R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed) and DANIEL DANFORD to lead.

PAIL implementation noteR. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed) noted that the initial implementation note should be done by MYM to share with others as a sample. During this call, the group looked at the sections in the current 'final draft' and Andres emailed a copy to all call participants and Susan Ruland. Andres also emailed a "lorem ipsum" new template version to Jessica and Susan Ruland (Unlicensed).

aberger@agsense.net (Unlicensed) noted that the next step is another meeting with the PAIL/water management team to re-engage the group and review the implementation note and pending notes/actions/needs. They'll prioritize needs and start the next note. Also will determine next work activity and spin up new working group with call for participation (under new AgGateway structure).

MYM PAC Communications Session  |  General Discussion

Reviewed placeholder description and new work-focused description and the idea of building a graphic or other similar communication piece to complement the Stakeholders and Deliverables infographic (see also Jim-AgriShow-Drawing.pdf). Jessica Trites Rolle will send a new description to Karen Ruprich and Brent Kemp.

The group discussed the infographic R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed) and Marilyn Hunter (Unlicensed) drafted following the May 23 'optional' PAC call. Current draft here:

AgGateway Stakeholders and Deliverables Map v2.pdf

The group talked about the challenge of any communications piece, including infographics, with the constant changes of work done by AgGateway and the ever-changing agriculture space worldwide and always shifting technology.

  • To make sure any infographic or note or flyer (etc.) is useful, TEST IT!
  • Once drafted, 'test' with people that did NOT create to see if they have the same understanding and, if so, can they explain it to others correctly. if not, what do we need to change to make it make sense? what examples do we need to use from daily life?
  • Need to be able to explain to others what things are without using project names or acronyms (but link them so when people hear the term, they understand) - focus on irrigation standards, field operations, data transformation and translation, etc.
  • Tell a story - easier for people to remember, repeat, relate to, and link to their work

Ben Craker (Unlicensed)'s recommendation: do a short animated video to show the stakeholders and deliverables flows and how AgGateway fits in - group agreed, this is a good approach.

R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed) asked that we build a backlog of messaging/concept needs for communications: what slides, videos, talking points, notes, flyers, etc. do we need, and then prioritize and create a draft (take iterative approach). Jessica Trites Rolle has some on this agenda page, can start with those.

6Event Calendar and Speaking Engagements

PAC Communications Calendar 2019

  • Event materials/supplies for:
  • Create one or more of the below by MYM for use at upcoming events:
    • Flyer possibilities:
      • Traceability Initiative (streamline processes in farmer businesses)?
      • Flyer (or other explainer) to address why it’s OK to collaborate with competitors at AgGateway and what makes that acceptable (antitrust, etc.)
    • Business card-sized promo piece: ask a pain-point question on front, information and QR code on back

Discussion

Agritechnica:

  • Wasn't the initial intention for a booth, but do have space from US Dept of Commerce. Need to wrap up so can get into the Exhibitor portal and apply for award. Application is on the ADAPT agenda for MYM.
  • Role for Communications will be after the ADAPT teams complete the application for award: wordsmithing, ensuring the meaning is clear, etc.
7Onboarding / Member Engagement

Reaching out to current and new members

Discussion

Noted new members for Soil Testing and other PA-related work: Agronomy Society of America, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America, all based in Madison, WI - Chris Boomsma, formerly with Dow AgroSciences and Purdue University, is our primary contact for the organizations, along with Brad Joern (Climate)

HOLDING TANK

items to consider in future

  • Traceability pitches (one for food processors)?
  • Identify audience: target flyers, messages to different groups; also have an overview all-audience flyer
  • Talk to new members: what pain points were they trying to solve that got them to join, and what collateral could we create to help others?
ASABE 2017: Sustainability, Provenance and ADAPT, Compound Identifiers. ASABE 2018: "Fit" paper (where does AgGateway "fit" into the standards space). Were not completed for conference papers, but could consider these journals for publication:
  • Computers & Electronics in Agriculture (ASABE journal) (no fee)
  • Applied Engineering in Agriculture (Elsevier journal) (fee)
  • There's also a Precision Ag journal, but the time frame from submission to publication is too long.

KEEP - As update/create flyers or other materials, consider (from 8/28/18 meeting discussion):Flyer format:
  • Use A4 format for our flyers, include country codes flyer and card phone numbers and country on addresses, and make sure we're being international in all our press. Also be careful about colloquialisms.
  • Use diagrams and pics, not words (words mean something different to different people) – borrow from presentations (ADAPT, CART, traceability, etc.) and make into a professional graphic
