Ag Retail Energy - ~50 minutes

Group has to review planning to date, reaffirm value and scope, and set next stepsAll

Randy Fry and Jeff Griffeth led a review of planned 2020 energy meeting and revisited questions of need, value and next steps.

Need and Scope:

  • Observation is that systems and processes for this line of business are antiquated

  • Some base standards of identification and message exchange do exist

    • NACS - National Association of Convenience Stores - product codes

    • X12 EDI 200-series messages for data exchange in distribution

    • Likely other codes and messages in use for regulatory touch points

  • Products:

    • Refined fuels - many different vendors but "commodity" level product set

    • Oil & Lube - seed-scale SKU set

    • Identification at the packaged product level only with lots of proprietary codes embedded in current barcoding

    • Randy advertised for the Crop Protection Identification session on Wednesday morning.

  • Messages:

    • Invoicing

    • meter readings and tank locations

    • loads and receiving

    • tank maintenance

    • Quantity of transactions - more than seed, consistency throughout the year

  • Can we make this easier, faster and more efficient?

    • Consensus is YES

    • Reviewed plan for cancelled face to face meeting

      • Agree that starting with pain point documentation is the right place to begin

      • Observed that some level of trust building will be needed and valuable for success

      • Timing - need to have energy specialists available. Early in the year is not a problem

    • Small group to reconvene Dec 8, 2020 at 10 am EST/9 am CST to develop virtual meeting plan and cadence

All were thanked for great participation.

4

Ag retail pain point ideation () - 30 minutes

Group discusses opportunities, challenges, begins prioritization and identifies next steps.

Brent Kemp led a pain point identification discussion.

What should we be working on as ag retail?

  • Crop protection messaging

    • Barcoding

    • GTIN

      • SKU count

      • Inconsistent implementation

      • UOM

    • product loads through central resource

    • end user/grower must be a consideration

  • Crop nutrition may be next given the low level of energy in CP

    • is there a driver here? Ex. release of barge to truck to customer without set delivery location

    • Multiple retailers aligned with this impression

    • Identification and SKU count is making CN more attractive

    • On the other hand, there’s a lot of low tech solutions already in place here

  • Seed Messages - Call to action from ag retail to push this forward

    • Ability to implement?

    • Communications piece - alignment on intent

  • Priorities

  • Timeline

Channel Integrity was brought up as an area where CP was active, noting that retail voices were needed.

  • Noted that Nutrien representing retail in that space

  • Randy observed that from his perspective as an invited participant for a few sessions there was some opportunity but not a lot of action

Susan asked about reactions to the animated video as a value for executive engagement. Feedback largely positive. Additional videos will be forthcoming; next topic planned is interoperability from an ADAPT perspective. All suggestions welcomed for future topics!
