Previous Topics from former Council:

  • Mapping XML rules to X12 Implementation
  • Web Services, Standards and Industry Approach to Socialization and Implementation
  • ResponsibleAg discussion
Discuss topics to see if there are any updates and interest moving forward.

Josh facilitated each topic during this section:

  • Mapping XML rules to X12 Implementation - Rob Kovalsky provided an update on the progress that had been completed previously. He stated that the CN group had reviewed the OrderCreate/850, OrderResponse/855 and the Ship Notice/856.  The Invoice/810 he believed was not completed.  He thought documentation could be found on the AgGateway Wiki. An action item was taken by Josh Wall to confirm the documentation was on the wiki. Scott Nieman asked what the value proposition of this exercise. The response was improvement of business processes. The group agreed that the issue was related to semantics.  Scott felt that this was probably a broader issue than XML to X12 Mapping it could spread across multiple syntax. The group felt like the likely next step is to form a more focused group to discuss a syntax control approach and potential solutions would be using ontology tools.  The action item was taken for Josh to reach-out to Jim Wilson on this topic and to discuss creating  a work group to further discuss the business challenges.
  • Web Services, Standards and Industry Approach to Socialization - Rob Kovalsky provided an overview of the issue encountered previously and stated that Jim Wilson met with the CN Council and provided AgGateway's approach to Web services.  The group thought Web Service Standards and the approach to socialization  maybe a good educational topic for the future.
  • ResponsibleAg discussion - Josh provided an overview with how AgGateway was working with ResponsibleAg to date cross-referencing ResponsibleAg certifications to GLN's.  He also asked the group if there is any other items we should be working with ResponsibleAg on.  Mike Carrabine stated that the current service was beneficial but until certification became more than a nice to have from his perspective there are no immediate needs.

Additional areas of discussion/pain points:

  • Logistics/Freight
  • Release Codes
Discuss potential new topics and see if there is interest having future discussions.

Josh facilitated each topic during this section:

  • Logistics/Freight - This topic was a general frustration with the group because Railroad/Carriers are difficult to work with and requires a lot of manual intervention. It was the consensus of the group there was not much that could be done at this point.
  • Release Codes - Charlie Will provided an overview of his challenges and the root cause of the issue is semantics in the implementation guidelines and how each trading partner choose to interpret the business rules. Scott Nieman mentioned this issue could probably be discussed by the Syntax control group mentioned above.
7Wrap-Up/Next StepsFinalize thoughts from the discussion and determine next stepsThe group agreed that meeting once a quarter would be beneficial.  The next logical time for a call would be during the Mid-Year Virtual Meeting. Josh would capture the action items and begin working on next steps.
