GTIN preparation and adoption

Europe activities:

  • CropLife Europe
  • Closed Loop Spray, eLabel, as-applied initiatives

Other

Reviewed discussion from  Ag Retail meet up, consensus was to focus on CP specific implementations today.

Jim Glynn shared path of barcoding, GTIN enumeration and use in their warehouse processes. Noted that where barcodes are not available on packaging, a proprietary code and symbol will be applied. Shares some estimates of time savings and process improvement.

Joe Gifford discussed progress and process from his perspective, noting that he barcode implementation and scanning inventory is the pinnacle of efficiency to aspire to. Manufacturers are moving ahead with plans to implement or actual implementation of GTINs in their systems. Noted that a typical master data path in this regard is:

  1. Get backend data in order
  2. Determine hierarchy and assign codes
  3. Load to AGIIS (or other sharable reference data repository)
  4. Barcode

Discussion around distinction between GTIN, the barcode, and other symbologies. GS1 representatives discussed some of the rules in place today and offered education to help clarify any areas of confusion.

Units of Measure continue to be an area where needs of particular participants at different levels of the supply chain encounter concern. Lowest salable unit vs lowest salable package vs pricing UOM and all these interact may require revisiting processes (order to invoice, product movement and inventory management) first documented in AEC to determine if here are opportunities for realignment.

Year end deadline for some decisions and implementations. Set phone and in-person meet ups:

  • Phone - prep for a charter discussion in person at WinField in September
    • Start -  9:00 am Chicago/10:00 am New York
    • Cadence - bi-weekly thru September14-15 face to face
  • Revisit cadence following the F2F thru the annual meeting

Discussed CropLife Europe, other activities at a high level for awareness.

4Third-Party Storage and Crop NutritionThe group is aware of efforts in the crop nutrition segment to document and socialize implementation guidance for a third-party storage and product management use case. Opportunity for collecting insights and suggestions is available.

Reviewed CN process to be discussed later.

Noted it sounds like consignment, shared storage, agency, other processes. Some similarities but not the same at a systems level. No specific message implementations identified.

Product Catalog Update

Very brief overview of current activities specific to product catalog

Noted there is an update planned for  am. Clarified that Product Catalog is a message format and content, not a repository. Data providers may set up API or other access to product catalog data,

New version will include elements needed for Canada.

6Crop Protection in CanadaGroup has opportunity to discuss the availability and interest of parties to implement CP messaging in Canada, and next steps (as applicable) are identified.

Noted that there are implementations going on or planned to kick off soon. Asked if there was a need to schedule a roundtable for supporting implementation. Answered that a session reviewing differences between message implementations for educational purposes would be a good start.
