nitrification inhibitor
Compounds such as nitrapyrin (N-serve) and dicyandiamide (DCD) that delay bacterial oxidation of the ammonium ion to nitrite and thus slow production of NO3. The objective of use of these compounds is to control leaching of NO3 by keeping N in the NH4+ form longer, to prevent the denitrification of NOs-N, and to provide NH4-N to plants over a longer period of time.
