Physical or mental effort; a force exerted for a distance; an energy transformation process which results in a change of concentration or form of energy. In irrigation, work done by a force on a particle is defined as the product of the magnitude of the force and the distance through which the particle moves. In hydraulic systems, it can be calculated as the product of the pressure and flow rate.
