Discussion on entity issue

Background - GLN was developed to track entities and locations, currently also being used to try and identity people

This has let to duplicates, need better business rules, need to agree on if/where a one stop shop for retailers to get grower entity

Problem statement

  • Struggling to link a single ID to internal proprietary IDs

  • There is a bit of a hierarchy issue, there is an entity with locations and people tied to each location

  • Considerable investment in AGIIS so goal is how we continue to leverage and utilize the system/investment

  • Duplicates are a main issue preventing organizations from utilizing AGIIS

    • Need to have a unique identifier for individuals, not entities or locations - for licensing purposes

  • Do still want to know that the person can be related to/between different farm entities and locations

    • Do we want a standard for identifying a farm operation

    • e.g. Smith farms with John, Jane, and Joe smith

    • Seems we are missing the hierarchy like exists for packaged products

    • Need a way to associate different entities with a location

    • Being able to state the relationship between existing duplicates could solve the issue

      • Mapping the relationships would be a start

      • Allowing manufacturer and retailers to conduct business they way they need to

  • How is it maintained and how to determine primary account

    • Need clear terms and definitions to entity, location, person

    • Likely not a reliable system to expect all the retailers to try and keep entities up to date

  • Hierarchy is probably not the way to go, likely better to have multi-relationships between individuals and farm businesses between individuals and farm businesses

  • Need to have a plan for survivorship after a massive de-duplication

  • Duplicates will be inevitable, how are they identified, who manages them

  • Also need to review interfaces needed among systems

  • Need a list of stakeholders involved in the system

    • What each stakeholder is using the system for - use cases

  • What is a duplicate- dependent on knowing what a thing is

    • How important is it to remove duplicates if we enable relationships

  • Who and how does governance work

 

  • What is each piece being used for

    • Business

      • Cannot have a license

      • Can have licensed passed to it by an individual properly associated with the business

      • Pays bills

      • Receives rebate payment

    • Location

      • Ship to / drop ship products

      • Bill to

      • Pay to

      • A physical spot

      • a farmer has 1..n locations (GLNs)

    • Person

      • A licensee

      • A delivery requires a grower to be licensed

        • Retailer is enforcer of license
