Highly erodible land

Soils with an erodibility index (EI) equal to or greater than 8 are defined as HEL. An EI of 8 indicates that without any cover or conservation practices, the soil will erode at a rate 8 times the soil tolerance level. Fields containing at least one-third or 50 acres (whichever is less) of HEL are designated as highly erodible for the purpose of HEL conservation provisions.
