crop rotation
The practice of growing different crops in recurring succession on the same land, in contrast to monoculture cropping. Crop rotation plans are usually followed for the purpose of increasing soil fertility, maintaining good yields, and reducing pest populations in order to increase the potential levels of production in future years. An agricultural method in which two or more crops are rotated from year to year to reduce nutrient depletion of the soil and reliance on pesticides; (crop sequencing) – the practice of growing a series of dissimilar types of crops in the same space in sequential seasons for various benefits such as to avoid the build up of pathogens and pests that often occurs when one species is continuously cropped.
