Meeting 3
Discussed meeting schedule
Started reviewing crop refinements
Example 1: Soft Red Winter Wheat
Example 2: Processing plum tomato
Discussed use cases, may need to request input from outside the group to cover different aspects of value chain
New use cases for planter and combine on how they are setup based on crop
Reviewed planter settings, seed size is very important, this would not be an aspect of crop though and likely more tied to a lot/batch of seed since seed size can not only be driven by variety, but also growing conditions during production of the seed
Looked at combine settings, a lot of different setting made on the machine driven by the crop being harvested - both physical adjustments as well as electronic (yield monitor)
Rice example
Stripper is different all together, due to header pulls in only the seed, not cutting off the whole plant to pull into the machine
California, delta differences in growing practice as well as variety
California more edible rice
Delta generally used more for beer
Australia is a mix, but people on the call not as familiar with
Corn example is driven more by crop condition (Moisture)
Not a different crop but different properties or intended use
Do have different crop settings, grain corn vs high moisture corn, vs high moisture corn
Also have different harvested commodity, can make a feed that is broken up cobs and the grain that are captured together in the machine
Closed loop spray AgGateway project
Have a crop type code, similar to the taxonomic aspect we are including
Have a somewhat ad hoc variety code, Stuart will follow up with Conny to see what the source code lists are for: Variety, production process, type (organic, environment, medium, period
Japan pesticide standard
Two standards in Japan
Maximum residue level, one strict rule
Crop items between two standards are not unified, below list of important refinements
Crop list: https://www.cavoc.org/cvo/ns/3/
Harvest part of the plant can drive permissible residue values
Intended use
Maturity
Trait
Cultivation method
Have also provided a slide of different vocabularies/ontologies in use
Another shared in the chat: https://agroportal.lirmm.fr/ontologies/CVO?p=classes
Would like to create a living document for the group with all the different lists and resources shared/found
Goal to start an basic cross reference
Goal would be to have stored somewhere multiple people can access and modify ongoing
@Ben Craker see about setting up a confluence space for the group to collaborate on things
