A yellow, inert crystalline mineral that is finely ground. In soil, elemental S is oxidized to sulfate via microbial activity. The rate of elemental S oxidation in soil is most rapid in warm, moist soils. Complete oxidation of elemental S to sulfate often takes one to several years.
