soil amendment

Substance added to soil to improve its pH or physical properties, for example, aglime, gypsum, peat, compost, etc.; any material, such as aglime, gypsum, sawdust, or synthetic conditioner, that is worked into the soil to make it more amenable to plant growth. The term commonly refers to added materials other than those used primarily as fertilizer.
