Permanent legislation

This term refers to those laws that would be in force to authorize various agricultural programs in the absence of all temporary amendments (farm bills). The Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938 and the Agricultural Act of 1949, as subsequently amended, serve as the basic laws authorizing the major commodity programs.
