isokinetic sampling

A procedure that ensures that a representative sample of aerosol enters the inlet of a sampling tube when sampling from a moving aerosol stream; sampling is isokinetic when the inlet axis of the sampler is aligned parallel to the gas streamlines and the gas velocity entering the thin-walled probe is equal to the free-stream velocity approaching the inlet.
