First e-ROSA Stakeholder Workshop

(Montpellier, FR)

R. Andres Ferreyra (Unlicensed)AgGateway and FAIR Data

This happens in the context of EU-funded projects on developing European e-Infrastructure.

The organizers were very interested in having a private sector perspective on agricultural semantic e-infrastructure: the need for it, existing experiences in, difficulties encountered, and thoughts about how to solve those difficulties. AgGateway's work toward Reference Data APIs, and variable-type registries for ContextItems, Observation Codes, and Representations was of special interest, and the focus of the presentation. The FAIR acronym refers to making data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. This has nothing to do with business models (e.g., giving it away) and everything with metadata, formats, and the use of persistent identifiers. A good summary can be found here: http://www.snf.ch/SiteCollectionDocuments/FAIR_principles_translation_SNSF_logo.pdf

Bayer and Syngenta also have a presence (albeit R&D-themed) at this event. Daniel Martini of KTBL / AEF is also present.

The presentation made by Andres can be found HERE.
