Longitude measures how far east or west a point on the earth lies from the Prime Meridian; longitude lines run from the North Pole to the South Pole. It is a global standard coordinate used to identify a position on earth given in degrees, minutes and seconds, indicates the east/west position around the globe from a reference point which overlays Greenwich, England, negative values are east of Greenwich and positive values are west. The Prime Meridian is the line of longitude that passes through Greenwich, England, which is the 0 degree longitude line. Longitude values to the east of the Prime Meridian will be specified by either 0 degree to 180 degree East. Longitude values to the west of the Prime Meridian will be specified by either 0 degree to 180 degree West.
