Short-throated flumes are considered short because they control flow in a region that produces curvilinear flow. Because of this short-throated flumes require calibration using more precise and accurate water measuring systems. Short-throated flumes are typically constructed using dimensions from a calibrated design. The Parshall flume and H-flume are common examples of this type of flume.
