DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), a polymeric chromosomal constituent of living cell nuclei, composed of deoxyribose (a sugar), phosphoric acid, and four nitrogen bases—adenine, cytosine, guanine, and thymine. It contains the genetic information for living organisms, and consists of two strands in the shape of a double helix. A gene is a piece of DNA.
