The Public Land Survey System (PLSS) is a way of subdividing and describing land in the United States, which is regulated by the U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management. It is a method used to survey and identify land parcels, particularly for titles and deeds of rural, wild, or undeveloped land. It is sometimes referred to as the rectangular survey system where the basic units of area are township and section; although non-rectangular methods such as “meandering” can also be used.
