Context of Use

Document the steps of internal warehouse movement when not utilizing AIDC technology

Internal Movement of Product within a single business unit using bar code technology

  • Warehouse Manager (May be off site):  Inventory accuracy and timeliness; efficient process to get inventory into system quickly; product placement is correct so easily accessed; Ability to manage first in/first out for products.
  • Warehouse Operations Manager (On site):  Inventory accuracy and timeliness; efficient process to get inventory into system quickly; product placement is correct so easily accessed; ability to manage first in/first out products
  • Accounting Department:  Reduction of extra cost due to inventory errors; inefficient processes that increase time spent handling inventory (Lost sales due to inventory errors)
  • Sales:  Current, accurate inventory to fulfill sales orders; timeliness in fulfillment of the order
  • Inventory Control (Auditing of Inventory):  Reduction of time needed to perform audit; Accuracy of inventory before and  during the audit
  • IT Manager/Support:  Ensure the bar coding equipment and ICS is operating as required to  support the business.
  • Logistics Process Governance Lead: Develop process documentation and ensure its operational application.
  • Customer: Product in stock and ready for delivery; Timeliness of delivery
  • Manufacturing division within the receiving company:  Real time visibility to inventory updates; Know where product is located when retrieving for manufacturing process
  • Warehouse Staff:  Accurate  and efficient process for placement and recording of location for product so can easily pick and pack an order
  • Regulatory Compliance:  Ensure products are stored correctly according to regulatory requirements.

Preconditions

  1. Product must be in the facility
  2. Location control must be implemented in the facility.
  3. Locations labels or placards must be installed with bar codes and human readable characters
  4. Product defined in the master inventory list.
  5. Inventory Control System (ICS) is in place utilizing bar code hardware and technology.
  6. Product is labeled with bar code and human readable / lot # (if applicable)  
  7. Product qty is greater than zero.
  8. Product is showing in inventory of the ICS.

Success Guarantees

  1. Accurate inventory tracking in facility.
  2. Efficient process for inventory tracking
  3. Real time inventory transactions in the ICS and enables process completion
  4. Correct product, quantity, and lot number (where applicable) has been recorded in the ICS.
  5. All applicable stakeholders have been notified of movement.
  6. Ability to locate product using a more efficient process

Trigger

Decision is made to move product to another location in warehouse.

Main Success Scenario

  1. Office staff will instruct the warehouse staff to move product to another location.
  2. Warehouse staffs locates product in original location.
  3. Warehouse Staff moves product into new location.
  4. Warehouse Staff records applicable changes  and signs off on document If required
  5. Warehouse Staff turns document into office staff to be recorded in the ICS system
