extra-long staple cotton

Cottons having a staple length of 1-3/8 inches or more, according to the classification used by the International Cotton Advisory Committee. This cotton is also characterized by fineness and high-fiber strength, contributing to finer and stronger yarns needed for thread and higher valued fabrics. American types include American Pima and Sea Island cotton. It is grown chiefly in west Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
