The act of spreading or intermingling of the molecules of two or more gaseous, suspended, or dissolved particulate substances; a relatively slow process, wherein molecules naturally move from regions of higher concentrations to regions having lower concentration. The process tends to distribute the gas, particles, or molecules more uniformly.
